LINDHOLM 21Centre for Sustainable Urban Development "LINDHOLM 21"
Description The main theme for the Danish URBAN I programme, which was implemented in Aalborg Municipality, was urban sustainable development. A central part of the programe was to establish a centre which could initiate and implement concrete activities and projects. These activities and projects reflected the overall purpose with the programme:
The project resulted in promoting a positive and sustainable urban development in general in the Lindholm area. Furthermore, LINDHOLM 21 was directly involved in the implementation of a holistic urban renewal programme in the larger urban area Nørresundby. And according to the philosofy behind Local Agenda 21, citizens and other local actors participated actively in the process. LINDHOLM 21 has initiated and implemented several ecological projects, training courses and environmental campaigns. The project was implemented in the period 1996-2001.
Partners Aalborg Municipality was the main, overall partner in the project. The dailiy management was in the hands of an association consisting of members from the public authorities and private companies.
Finances The project was co-financed by the EU's URBAN programme.
