Description

Chinese companies are very interesting for European companies for future cooperations and investments. However, there are profound cultural barriers both ways, which need to be broken down before business relations can be created. The project focuses on the elaboration of tailor made training courses into European business culture for Chinese companies’ executives from both Hefei and Hong Kong that have vested interests in establishing sustainable business relations with European companies. 

Results:

•  45-60 executives representing a number of 30 Chinese companies have been trained in European business culture
• A basic awareness and understanding of Western European culture and the principle values both in private and in business on how to do business with Europeans
• Understanding the different norms for production and products in Europe including the notion "quality"
• Rational use of production material
• Understanding the meaning of European expectations regarding terms of payment, costs, transfers, dates of delivery etc. 
• Legislation and regulation related to European production and imports
• Basic ideas on strategic management and planning

The project was implemented in the period 2001-2002.

Finances

The project has been co-financed by the EU programme ASIA INVEST with app. 41,000 Euro. Budget: 83,000 Euro. The Asia-Invest programme is a European Community initiative that provides financial support to facilitate business cooperation between companies from the European Union and Asia.
